PRESS RELEASE – During the launch of the re-branded Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) last year, the members of the St. Lucia Carnival Bands Association was pleased at the revelation that the CDF was given the responsibility once again of managing the business of St. Lucia Carnival.
While we look forward to purposeful vision, we applaud the Carnival Stakeholders Committee for holding the fort for the past two years. However, the St. Lucia Carnival Bands Association welcomes the recent move to appoint a Carnival Planning and Management Agency. In addition, we applaud the decision to have Teddy Francis back into the island’s main cultural showpiece – St. Lucia Carnival.
While we give kudos to those who have contributed and worked extremely hard in the development and management of carnival, such as Kennedy “Boots” Samuel and Lionel Ellis to name a few, we must highlight that Francis paved the way in taking St. Lucia Carnival to another level.
For years, the St. Lucia Carnival Bands Association has enjoyed a fruitful and promising relationship with Francis and the Association wishes to strengthen that.
In that regard, the St. Lucia Carnival Bands Association hopes for the development of the island’s main cultural showcase – St. Lucia Carnival, as it looks forward to a successful season in 2014.
President of the Carnival Bands Association Sonia Sifflet said: “It is time to take the islands main cultural event to a higher level, one that can generate and contribute further economic growth and development to the island. Our Association values the arts, particularly St. Lucia Carnival, and as a result we hope to work strategically with the Carnival Planning and Management Agency and the Director of Carnival Teddy Francis in an effort to improve the festival.”
