CARIMAN and NWU sign off on wage deal

rubis-and-national-workers-unionPRESS RELEASE – The Management of Caribbean Manufacturers Limited (CARIMAN) and the National Workers Union (NWU) have attained an industrial milestone.

The union, recognizing the financial situation that has characterized the company’s operations over the last twenty-four (24) months, has agreed to accept an industrial package that would buy some time and assist the company in its thrust to vigorously pursue new contractual orders that would see the company back to operational viability.

The NWU and CARIMAN Ltd. agreed to a fifteen percent (15%) general wage increase spread over a six (6) year period as follows:

Year 1 –a very good bonus; Year 2 – 3.5 % increase; Year 3 – 2% increase; Year 4 – 3% increase; Year 5 – 4% increase and year 6 – 2.5% increase.

Workers will also benefit from interest free loans with manageable repayments in keeping with workers’ income. Existing fringe benefits will remain the same.

The new industrial accord between CARIMAN Ltd. and the National Workers Union will be officially executed shortly. CARIMAN Ltd. operates in Vieux Fort and employs about seventy (70) male and female workers.
