CARIBBEAN: Fidel Castro, Cuba’s leader of revolution, dies at 90

2016-11-26-05_28_39-fidel-castro-cubas-leader-of-revolution-dies-at-90-bbc-newsBBC – Cuba’s former president Fidel Castro, one of the world’s longest-serving and most iconic leaders, has died aged 90.

His younger brother and successor as president Raul Castro announced the news on state television.

Castro toppled the government in 1959, introducing a Communist revolution. He defied the US for decades, surviving many assassination plots.

His supporters said he had given Cuba back to the people. Critics saw him as a dictator.

Ashen and grave, President Castro told the nation in an unexpected late night broadcast on state television that Fidel Castro had died and would be cremated later on Saturday.

  1. Kenny loses his bosom buddy.

"Commanding heights of the economy" theory as economic and social development is long dead too.

But sadly, we are left with the bussing of gullible followers in red shirts from place to place to swell attendance numbers, at political meetings, as a shameful SLP legacy. It has become too. our local version too of "fake news".

I do not value his contribution in having George Odium attempting a coup here with the attempted take over of radio Saint Lucia. Neither is the fact that Morris Bishop's remains or body cannot still today, be found after the Cuban-inspired coup. Nor is the fact that such foolishness gave the Americans a valid excuse to exercise their little-known secret pact with the British after independence, regarding their control of this hemisphere filling the void left by the British.

The only redeeming feature and lasting legacy will be some advances made in the medical field. Mind you, not the "barefoot doctors". The array of negatives to me still well outweigh the positives.

He will not be missed. He, and what he stood for, was dead a long time ago too.

He only taught us, like Guyana and Jamaica very painfully, what not to do.

Kenny decided to follow lock step, lock step in his idol's footsteps, and he too having lost his head, lost the last elections.

Thank Providence for elections. No to electronic voting for us.

The Russians can easily rig that and give you an embarrassing moron like US President Trump, and an "selected" dictatorship of the redneck ignoramus. Again, geo-politically speaking, if we can learn, all of this is teaching us what to avoid like the bubonic plague and ebola virus.
