copJAMAICA OBSERVER – Constable Richard Plummer from the St Ann’s Bay Police Station, who was photographed last week carrying an elderly woman in St Ann’s Bay, was yesterday promoted to the rank of corporal and given an award for his selfless act of kindness.

The Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said he was given the award at the two-day 74th Annual Joint Central Conference of the Jamaica Police Federation, which got underway yesterday at the Iberostar Hotel and Resorts in St James.

Many Jamaicans who praised his efforts shared the photograph of Plummer embodying the JCF’s motto ‘Service Above Self’.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday shared a photograph on Twitter of Plummer receiving his award.

The prime minister on Saturday commended Plummer for his efforts saying there is hope for Jamaica when we all are our brothers’ keepers.

  1. thanks officer.... they need more caring and loving people like you!

  2. Now from now on I looking for an old lady to carry to get my promotion, an award and my raise!
Old woman alone I carrying...old woman alone.

  3. Not in St.Lucia will these bunch of jokers do that, not even a call of good job would the officer get, anyway Mr Jamaican officer that's it you will receive endless blessings .

  4. Perfect example of "do good and good will come back to you" Congrats sir!

    • Actually this is a great example of a disproportionate amount of praise for a mild act of civility. It's things like this that make the average Caribbean worker feel entitled to do as little work as possible for as big a reward as possible.

  5. Respect officer ............more life

  6. That's what I'm talking about, above and beyond the ordinary, lead by example!
