DNO – Dominica’s candidate for Secretary General, Baroness Patricia Scotland, has been elected to the top post.

The election took place in Malta on Friday where the 53 Heads of state of the union have gathered for a summit.

“I am incredibly proud to be the first woman to hold the post of Secretary General,” she said at a press conference after the election.

She said she will be placing the “women’s agenda very strongly on the table.”

“Domestic violence affects one in three women globally,” she said. “It is the greatest cause for morbidity in women and girls and it is a disgrace that this so.”

  1. people we are in 2015 what is this baroness crap I'm reading. we need to do away with all these titles which mostly are empty suites or dress masquerading as people who posses the will or ability to create any meaningful change in our lives. The structure of slavery is still very much in place, and to continue to give respect to such titles only serves to keep in mentally enslaved and in submission to people who seek to exploit steal and plunder

  3. What is the agenda of this new Commonwealth secretary general? She was only elected this past week and the ink on the paper she signed to take up her new post is barely dried yet and her first priority is to help buttress the gay and lesbian cause. Instead of giving a speech to thank the people and member states who helped her on her way she is going on about something which has very little interest in the Commonwealth. The Homosexual lobby have hijacked the agenda to serve their own purpose. They do not care about the Commonwealth or what it purports to do for it's over 1 billion citizens.

The Commonwealth secretary general have been elected to serve and to look after the interests of the people of this ancient dinosaur. She should not allow nor be making statements and pronouncements which seem to favour the rights of only a few. The Homosexual lobby in the UK is very powerful. Whatever the gays wants the gays gets. Although they were not the ones who voted her into her new position but they feel they have every right to dictate to her and to set the agenda. That is why I think this colonial backwater should be abolished. It is not fit for purpose and has outlived it's usefulness.

This colonial outpost has nothing to offer anyone. It's been around for half a century and to date there is nothing significant it has achieved. Sometime ago a group of British MP's in Westminster called for it to be abolished. Their reason was that it had become a drain on the British public purse. The member states of the commonwealth need to look within and ask themselves whether an organization which reminds them of Britain's brutal colonial past is worth pumping money into and worth fighting to keep.Only a prozac-minded optimist will concur otherwise.

The UK which heads the commonwealth have joined up with other European countries to form the European community. Britain does not care about this body of mainly African Caribbean and Asian countries no more. She has plundered and pilfered most of their goods, treasures, artefacts and other loot and so to her these once colonial dependencies does not matter or even deserve to be given a mention. After World War 2 thousands of black people came from the Caribbean Africa and Asia to help rebuild the UK which was blitz by Germany. They came because they felt obligated to Britain and of course wanted to help her get back on it's feet. These men and women worked very hard to ensure that everything returned back to normal. Now instead of being grateful the British were anything but appreciative of the work that it's commonwealth cousins came to do to bring her back to some semblance of normality.

Britain brought about the most draconian pieces of immigration legislation which prohibited black and Asian folks from entering the UK in large numbers. The 1948 962 and 1971 immigration acts stopped many people with British colonial passports from entering the UK. While the non-whites were not allowed the citizens of dominion countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand were given free reign to the UK. They could come and go as they please. If this is not racism then I do not know what is. The Immigrations laws are inherently racist. They are geared towards keeping black people out of the UK. Where was the commonwealth when we needed it?

With that being the case why would African and Caribbean countries want to keep this ancient body afloat? Where is the logic in doing so? The British enslaved millions of black folks in the Caribbean and other parts of the Americas and to date they have not uttered an apology for this reprehensible and abominable act. Why do we blacks like to revisit the scene of oppression? This ancient body serves no purpose for black and Asian people. The wealth that it acquires yearly is not common with that of most member states. Most of the countries which are members of the commonwealth were once colonised by Britain. Once they became decolonised and independent then they should go about their separate ways and if anything trade with each other. You do not need a colonial body to remind you of past injustices. If the British want to trade then you trade with them otherwise you send them packing. We are no longer under British jurisdiction and it should stay that way.

This woman's name was put forward by the government of Dominica even if she has nothing to do with this splendid isle. She was born in Dominica and was taken to the UK at a portable age. She have not returned back much to her country of birth and have done little to help this impoverish Caribbean isle. She does not care much Dominica nor the Caribbean for that matter. The prime minister of Dominica was pretty desperate by the looks of it to have propose someone who have lived all her life in the UK. This woman is British and shares nothing in common with Dominica or Dominicans. She is an opportunist who may well have used the people and isle of Dominica to her own advantage.

The British would have never nominated her nor supported her for this post. Not this present Tory government anyway. So along comes this man of profound mental retardation called Roosevelt Skerritt, who has no compunction in putting through a British baroness who apart from being born in Dominica has no connections with his country. Were there not other competent Dominicans he could have put forward?

The Citizens of the commonwealth needs jobs, healthcare, proper sanitation and security not rhetoric and verbiage coming from people trying to push their own niggardly agenda. This should be an inclusive club and not an exclusive one for a few nepotists who would like to impose their will on others. The Commonwealth has no right to dictate to the sovereign states that it represents. This would be a fragrant violation and not in accordance with what it is about. They must learn to respect the laws of these nations who contribute heavily to maintain it's existence. The duty of the secretary general is to look after the interests of all the citizens of the commonwealth and not some.she needs to remain impartial.

I will not shed one tear when this ancient relic of the past and which reminds us of the British' inglorious past cease to exist - not will millions of fellow people from the Commonwealth. The world have moved on from the brutal days of slavery and colonialism. We in the developing world must learn to adapt to our ever changing world. We do NOT need a colonial backwater which has nothing to offer us nor fit for purpose putting a drain on the resources of the many states that currently forms it. The funds that is keeping it going could be used to feed and shelter millions around the world.

The Commonwealth need to start looking within and not without. If it cannot do that then I will reiterate once more 'It needs to go'... Britain is happy to be among the nations of the EU than she is to be among us non whites. They would rather see their country being swamped with endless whites from mainland Europe than it would be to have blacks and Asians flooding to it's shores. Our leaders like Sherritt need to get this through their thick skull. You have nothing to offer the whiteman and he does not want to have anything much to do with you. He would rather be with people who look like him. His white folks who are in his club. Birds of a feather flock together.

This secretary general like the many others before her don't have a clue about this body and how to take it forward and in line with the 21st century. She will be paid handsomely for doing very little. The Commonwealth, it's secretariat and secretary general are as empty as a hermit's notebook. It should be abolished.
