PRESS RELEASE – The capacity of United and Strong Inc to advocate on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and intersex persons in Saint Lucian and the Caribbean has been strengthened with membership involvement in two significant training programmes.

Members of United and Strong are participating in the Caribbean Institute in Gender & Development (CIGAD) at the University of the West Indies Cavehill, Barbados and the Rainbow Leaders program in Stockholm, Sweden.

CIGAD is the region’s premier gender and development training programme, now in its 11th cycle. It is offered by the Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit (IGDS: NBU), a dynamic unit within UWI. IGDS: NBU is engaged in a programme of teaching, research and outreach on women and gender issues in Caribbean society.

The unit uses gender analysis to investigate material and ideological relations of gender affecting Caribbean women and men and seeks to expose and transform these to create a more just society.

The Rainbow Leaders programme is offered by RFSL—The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights, a non-profit organization that works with and for the rights of LGBT persons.

The overall objective of Rainbow Leaders is increased LGBTI organisational visibility and mobilisation to secure LGBTI rights in regional and international arenas.

These programmes have trained hundreds of people in the Caribbean and around the globe, creating more knowledgeable, and empowered individuals and building a family of activists around the world.

United and Strong lauds this development of staff and membership capacity as it redounds directly to the organisation’s benefit. The organisation further recognises the contribution of IDGS:NBU and RFSL in solidifying its advocacy.

  1. You saint Lucian are so stupid and ridiculous, you all think saint Lucia is the center of the world. Look at this link. And then question yourself not someone else because their seem to sine different then you all. We all are sinners and will pay for it at the end. Not just one set of people. I mean you all, and I'm a paster and my church is open to people of the LGBT community because they are God's creation, I don't care if they are gay. I think the churches on this island is a miss of a system. They all are tell you lies just to hate on people.

    Watch this.

  2. Lord have mercy upon our st Lucia ....sick people. Wat are going to teach the next generation to come. Abomination

    • look at who is calling people sick. Look at yourself first. If you find that your not sick then you really are.

  3. Boy with some of dem faces and body shapes I seeing there I understand why they must turn homo. No man eh go climb them.

    • I'm guessing you haven't look at yourself lately to realize that you are just as ugly. Because the same person who made you also made them. The once who see people as being ugly are the ones who are.

  4. We need true representation. Not persons with hidden agendas. Where are the faces of our youth? They need to be part of the movement.

  5. Seems like a bunch of dissatisfied women and one happy man.... is this a "have had too many men now i am anti man all for woman" club.... where are the true sufferers of discrimintion due to sexual orientation?
