PRESS RELEASE – Defending champions Canaries and three time former champions Dennery have already booked places into the semi finals of the 2015 Blackheart/SLFA knockout football tournament after a massively entertaining and exciting weekend of football at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.
First to book their place in the semi finals was Dennery who had a convincing four goals to nil win over South Castries last evening. They were led to victory by second half substitute Winel Felix who scored two goals in the dying minutes of the encounter in time added on.Other goals for Dennery came from Kenvie Polious in the 35th minute and Ridel Stanislaus in the 55th minute.
The defending champions Canaries booked their spot in the semi finals with a controlled one goal to nil win over Babonneau. Antoine Wilfred was the goal scorer for Canaries in the 13th minute of the encounter his second goal in as many matches in the tournament for Canaries.
Dennery and Canaries will meet in the semi finals of the competition on Saturday evening at the Phillip Marcellin Gounds in Vieux Fort in what is expected to be a mouthwatering semi final encounter.
On Saturday evening at the Soufriere Mini Stadium Micoud and Soufriere earned the rights to play in the quarter finals after contrasting wins over Mabouya Valley and Gros Islet.
Micoud with a penalty from Kershan Marcellin in the 8th minute of the encounter was enough to get them into the quarter finals where they will come up against Marchand.
Soufriere staged a miraculous and unbelievable comeback in their match vs Gros Islet as they came from being two goals to nil down to win four goals to two.
Gros Islet quickly went ahead with goals in the 8th and 36th minutes from Troy Greenidge and Elijah Louis, Soufriere pulled one back at the stroke of half time when Arthurton Griffith converted.
A transformed Soufriere in the second half scored three unanswered goals in a period of play which had the large partisian crowd on their feet in a frenzy as goals came from Griffith again in the 47th minute,Jordan Henry in the 57th minute and Ned Etan in the 73rd minute. Soufriere has now advanced to the quarter finals where they will play Roseau Valley.
The Tournament takes a two day break today and tomorrow and resumes Wednesday evening at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort with the final two quarter final matches being played.
From 6.00 p.m.Roseau Valley vs Soufriere
From 8.00 p.m.Marchand vs Micoud
The winners of these two encounters will meet in the semi finals of the competition to be held at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort this coming Saturday.
