(PRESS RELEASE) – Saint Lucian Graduates of Cameron Univeristy have come out, in a big way, for their colleagues in Dominica affected by Hurricane Maria in September through a #Dominicastrong drive.
Following the pasaage of thr powerful category 5 storm, Saint Lucian graduates from the educational institution in Lawton, Oklahoma, USA came together to raise funds to help the many who lost almost everything. The group was able to raise over EC$8,000 in contributions from graduates who live all over the world, and purchase supplies to benefit the Dominican Cameron University alumni.
Through coordination with the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) the group shipped some 40 boxes containing care packages for Cameron Aggies from the Nature Isle on Monday, November 6, 2017. The packages included food stuff, cleaning supplies, personal care products, among others.
In a message to contributors, the local coordinators of the initiative expressed sincere gratitude to alumni who made the effort possible.
“We take this opportunity to congratulate you on a fantastic effort on behalf of our colleagues in Dominica and to thank all who contributed towards the donation drive. Thank you so much for your sacrifice and thoughtfulness.”
Already, the Alumni group, which is yet to be formally constituted, is looking to take on a new humanitarian challenge, wherever and whenever it may arise.
