Calypsonian Ignatius “ De Invader” Tisson has announced plans to boycott a calypso show that is set for the National Cultural Centre (NCC) this weekend.

De Invader made this comment on News Pin this morning.

When contacted for a comment, the calypsonian said he would not like to make any further remarks.

St. Lucia News Online (SNO) understands that De Invader’s comment comes in light of reports that calypsonians requests for an early payment, to assist with the preparations for the finals, were denied.

The Saint Lucia Association of Registered Tents (START) Communication Officer Cecil Charles declined to comment, but instead referred this publication to De Invader.

Reports are that START has told the calypsonians that they will receive payments until next week.

Other Artists Representing Themselves (ART) members and veteran calypsonians such as: Educater, Mary G and Menelle “Minelle” Delice are also in solidarity with De Invader.

SNO understands that it will be communicated to the calypsonians before the end of today, whether they will be able to receive a part payment or not.

  1. But it is an investment so put your funds out to win and collect your prize money after. I never know they give part payment in a competition. So it is?

  2. I have never supported this thing called START. Government should recognize one institution for st lucia carnival. That is the Saint Lucia Calypso Association. . We are just not doing it right and this is the result we will get. This is the worst calypso season ever.

  4. Interesting, how is it that we can expect our artist to put on a show without the necessary funds to put on SAID show. I am an advocate for financial independence but art needs resources and space to grow. I agree with De Invader

    • i agree with u...but do u realize the amount of time they are kept waiting to get paid long after the competition??? maybe if it wasn't the norm to be paid long after the job then they would have done it without incident...this practice of holding the singers monies for too long needs to be abolished...pay them so they can perform with a good spirit
