BVI to begin new immigration system March 1

(CMC) – A new appointment system to fix the long line of persons outside the Immigration Department in the British Virgin Islands, will come on stream on Thursday, March 1.

The department, in a recent statement said that once implemented, persons will be able to schedule appointments based on the immigration service they are seeking to receive.

The appointments will be offered in a series of three-hour slots between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm daily.

“Persons seeking to acquire residence status, become a Belonger, have their entry and landing permits renewed or issued, and process all other Immigration services will be asked to schedule their appointments from Monday through Thursday,” the release said.

Immigration said government and statutory body employees as well as students, employees at H Lavity Stoutt Community College, and persons exempt from work permits will only be allowed to book appointments on Fridays.

The department further said persons seeking landing permit extensions will be allowed to have walk-in appointments between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm daily.

According to Premier Dr Orlando Smith said an online application system will be implemented in a few weeks as another fix to the problem.

The online system will be merged with the appointment system to allow persons to make appointments to have their Immigration matters addressed in a timely manner.

“This will add to the efficiency of the application process at the Immigration Department,” the premier said.
