Businesswoman robbed in Mon Repos; resident fired shots at robber

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a businesswoman in Morne Repos Proper, Micoud on Thursday night, April 2.

Reports are that at about 9:45 p.m., a young man – described as tall and slim – walked up to the owner of a shop in the community, as she reached the entrance of her home.

Armed with a gun, the bandit demanded money, an eyewitness told St. Lucia News Online (SNO).

“He pushed the young lady to the ground and grabbed her bag,” the eyewitness said.

A resident, who is a licensed firearm holder, fired shots at the bandit, who escaped.

“He (bandit) seemed to have been in no rush after his crime,” the eyewitness added.

The businesswoman’s bag contained an undisclosed amount of cash, keys to her shop, and documents.

  1. you have the right name. cock sa pwel. what is excessive force? things will never go right in this country cause some of you are never satisfied and always want to criticize good work of others. All these young fellars from Lombard do is rob people at gun point. we all have an idea of who they are. A good and respectable citizen who carry a license firearm try to assist and here you are saying he used excessive force. what excessive force did he use. Didn't these vagabonds use excessive force when they pushed the girl to grab her bag. owa for yall situez yall time must reach.

    • Firing a gun at someone indiscriminately is excessive force. Why didn't he call the police instead? It's the duty of the police to take the mugger in - not that of a gunman to fire shots at him. Spose he had kill the bloke.. what then? Folks like you need to stop encouraging people to carry guns and to take the law in their hands. We do not need guns in St Lucia whether they are licensed or not. Guns kill and destroy lives. I still think the police should go after the licensed gunman. He should be made an example of.A young man in Soufriere lost his life the same way. The woman who was being robbed had the situation under control and so therefore the man with the gun had no right to shoot. He could have killed an innocent bystander. That's all I am saying.

  3. Violence is never the answer people. Why did this man fired shots at the mugger? Suppose he had killed him. What would happen if he had shot the guy dead? Personally I think the licensed gunman used excessive force. There was no need for him to use such brutal force.

The best he could have done was to call the police. The cops are trained to apprehend suspects who commit crimes. The police is also charged with bringing them to justice. There is a criminal justice system and it is their duty to prosecute people who have broken the law. Vigilante justice is never the right way to go in any society. It is wrong for people to take the law into their own hands. The man had no right to rob the woman but it looked like the woman was able to fight back. She was quite capable of handling this mugger. She did not need a gunman shooting at the assailant.

Now I think the police needs to move in on this man with the gun. He should be arrested for using excessive force. The law allows for reasonable force. Firing bullets at someone indiscriminately like this is not on. The bullets could have hit an innocent bystander. Someone could have been killed justly or unjustly. These so called licensed gunmen behave like they live in the jungle. We do not live in the jungle where anything goes. WE live in a modern and civilised society and have rules and regulations everyone needs to adhere to. Last year a Laborie man kiiled a young man in Soufriere, and nothing was done to bring this guy to book. His life was not in any danger from what I hear yet he put the poor bloke down.Guns and bullets is certainly not the way to sort out crime in the country. Let law and order take it's course. Stop the shootings and put your weapons away.Let the law have it's way.

  6. It's all good when crime escalates in this country. Perhaps dats the only time the incumbent government see the importance of the police who they treat like dirt continuously.

  8. It saddens me, we all should have a right to free, but still it seem the criminal elements are just taking and doing as they please...is it conspiracy?.I maybe wrong..but in my point of view it would seem we are trapped tied down and beaten silently.the country feels like a slave.why the hell are we an independent country and we can even deal with our own issues why are we so dependant , why, it feels like we are beggers, like we are still a little baby who needs our parents...why isn't no body doing anything, why isn't this sweet sweet country of our coming together, there is something big going to happen I can feel it..if they, no i should say if we as a nation don't act now I fear is country is going to head down into a pit of caos..and nobody will take the blame.. So so sad for little st Lucia..I am only a child an all I hear are about the food old days....it feels like home, feels warm and everyone was happy..I wish I wasn't born in this century I feel like a slave...the only free right I have is to vote..but will that change anything....ooohhh Helen of the west
