Sam Avey claimed the 11-13 boys title as the 2013 Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championships winners ended last weekend at St Andrew’s Golf Club in Moka, Maraval, Trinidad & Tobago.

Jonathan Bruce of Saint Lucia claimed third in the 11-13 boys.

After a sultry opening day, Bruce was way back in seventh place, a full 11 strokes back of the leader, Avey, who was on 81.

The young Saint Lucian climbed into contention with a remarkable second day, though. He beat Avey by two strokes to shoot 84, jointly the second best score through two days of competition, and zoomed past Jonathan Greenidge (94) into third place, just behind Zach Correia (90).

Ryan Peters, fourth after the opening day and joint fifth after two days, roared into second place with a joint tournament-best 81 on the final day. Bruce shot 90, but the Junior Golfer of the Year in Saint Lucia amassed a three-day total of 266 (92, 84, 90) that let him cling to third place by one shot ahead of Greenidge, who himself beat Correia by one shot.
This year marks the 12th consecutive year of sponsorship by Republic Bank and the fourth in successive years as the Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championships.

The tournament is hosted and facilitated by the Trinidad & Tobago Golf Association.
