KINGSTOWN, SVG – The mother of two in St. Vincent and the Grenadines who was set afire after she reportedly refused to have sex or give money to her lover, has died, according to iWitness News.
Monique Clarke, 44, of Biabou, died this morning, Tuesday, August 22 at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital where was admitted for second and third degree burns to 85 prcent of her body, from her head to her lower body, iWitness News reported.
The incident occurred on August 13.
“Thanks everyone who tried to help in one way or another but Sad News… not what I wanted to hear… My sister Monique has passed on,” the woman’s sister, Iesha Richardson, announced in a Facebook post early Tuesday morning.
The woman died as her relatives were attempting to raise funds to send her overseas for further medical attention.
Prosecutors will likely charged Clarke’s boyfriend, Pedro Ashton, a 33-year-old labour from Biabou, with murder now that she has died.
He was arrainged on August 15 for attempted murder.
Clarke is expected to reppear in court on Sept. 4.
“Yo’ go know. The 4th ah September. Yo’ go know the truth and nothing but the truth,” he had told a iWitness News reporter who questioned him while he was leaving the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court after his arraignment.
