Rendezvous Resort has confirmed that two of its staff members were injured in an explosion on one of their boats this morning, Wednesday, April 9.

Police sources say the “mishap” involved took place about 7:25-7:30 a.m. near the Rendezvous Hotel in Vigie.

The employees are currently being treated at Tapion Hospital but the injuries are not life-threatening, General Manager Yhasmine Remy-Hylton said in a statement released Wednesday evening.

Remy-Hylton said the company is “very saddened” about the explosion and it is now focused on the recovery of their employees.

“The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Marine Unit is investigating and we will defer to their findings on the matter. At this time our focus is on our injured staff and our prayers are with them and their families. The resort management team is caring for the injured employees and we are doing all in our power to ensure they get the best medical care available,” Remy-Hylton added.

It is not clear whether the boat was moving at the time of the explosion but when officers of the Marine Unit arrived to assist on the scene the boat was adrift, sources say.
