The body of a man was fished from a river in River Doree, Choiseul on Monday afternoon (June 9) around 4:15.
Reports are that two persons were swimming when one of them felt “something like a body”.
“When we dive we saw it was him (Mickey),” an eyewitness said. The body was then fished from the water by a diver and brought to shore and placed on the nearby beach.
Another resident with information about the incident explained: “Today is a holiday and most people went by the beach. While bathing a girl said she felt something like somebody touch her. Another friend went into the water and said she feel somebody at the bottom of the water. They called the guys around. They went to dive and discovered his body. They pulled him out, did a CPR; he coughed and lie motionless. They called police and ambulance. He was transported to St. Jude Hospital to be pronounced dead by a medical doctor.”
It is reported that the victim was seen earlier “doing push ups and swimming to a rock”. His body was found in an area of the river which runs directly into the sea.
“The man was at the bottom of the water. If the girls didn’t trump on him people wouldn’t even know da man drown,” said a resident.
Residents alleged that Mickey is known to drink alcohol, sometimes before swimming, and this may have caused his demise.
“Da man was a rum head,” remarked one resident.
