  2. My child went to secondary school and never, ever, roamed the streets after school. U know why???? Because i said so. Me..... the PARENT said so. So we need to look at our parenting styles and do something about it. These young people have too much damn liberty...free time....

  3. Why is it that society likes to blame parents for their child or children behavior? we need to change the way we think and consider the reasons surrounding the situation at hand. No one parent can be blamed for the incident which occured. The students involved should be held responsible although we can hold them accountable for the situation because we don't know their struggles in life or what they are going through at the present situation. Stop putting blame on parents or the students because there is so little that parents can do in disciplining their children . Whereas society controls our children and creates a different environment to them. Please stop it.

    • Because a child is the parent's responsibility. They are responsible for raising their children with proper values and morals. Obviously society influences children growing up, however society is not responsible for the outcome of a person's child. You can grow up in a rough society/environment and still be successful.Maybe if less parents thought "society controls our children, its not my fault they end up so" St. lucia would be a better place.

  4. We do not know what we want. We are now blaming police for our children's behaviour. There should be limits to the time that children should be hanging around after school. If they are caught over the time, they should have a valid excuse. Parents should give children curfew.

  6. You Lucians don't know what you all want. Parents need to "Discipline" Themselves and their children. No government, Police, social worker cannot tell me how to raise my kids. When they go wrong everyone is the parent fault, I always tell my police friends if my children do something wrong it is me they will come too saying the children under age. That is not happening. I have four children going to secondary school at my house three is mine one is my sisters' none of them has a cell phone. I do not want any child at my home with cell phone. When people are working they can have cell phone. I always tell my kids if anything happen to them, their schools know where to get me. I told my sister when she get her daughter a cell phone get her somewhere else to live as well. Not at my house. The new school year is up they went back to school with the same bags they had last year. I give those with walking distance 15 min to get home, those to take bus half an hour. I am at work when I call the house everyone must be there!!! If you don't take control of your kids they will take over you. No child sucks their teeth at me, nor ague, I have family meeting every month where they can discuss their problems, you cannot say you are not being heard. no child is too big or old to get a beating, my children know me they will always walk away from fights. If they go home straight to and from school they cannot get themselves in fights. Parents do you job when the children deserves licks bust their ass. Children has no rights at your house when is you feeding, clothing and educating them.

    • "Children has no rights at your house when is you feeding, clothing and educating them"
that line says u are a bully...who raised u??? is that the message u wanna leave with readers about children and rights??? what u are doing is demanding respect...u are not earning it...your kids are growing up in fear which is not a positive thing...there is a 50/50 chance that when they do something negative it will make headlines and parents like u will come back and say my kid was a decent one always obedient...u need to set boundaries for your kids while observing their rights...and u wanna kick your kids outside because he or she has a cellphone??? its common sense to just take it away than to act barbaric and kick them out...i think u were raised in a slave background...children are not animals...raise them up in the right way and u won't need a whip...

  7. Firstly parents need to set time limits for their children on when they should be home. In some developed countries a device called the Mosquito has proven to reduce loitering in towns, cities etc, where students/teenagers normally congregate. Businesses could also deter them by playing classical, gospel, or just music that they hate. I could go on and on...
As to violence the teachers can have a final session about 5 mins before the final bell to encourage students to head straight home or refrain from violence, loitering, vandalism etc..anything positive so that it is fresh in their memories.
In all, it should be a community effort- we just have to play our part.

  8. Children raising children is no excuse. We need to become a more mature society. Learn from mistakes whether ours or others and do the right thing. These children need to go home straight from school. We as parents need to enforce this in order to avoid such incidents. I am personally disgusted with these crowds of children in the city on Friday afternoons. Let us treat the children like children. GO HOME...

  9. What happens later when these kids then become police officers in our society? Could the bright people who support violence and harsh measures answer. Remember they will be coming to police you as geriatric. If only your society had done a better job then you would not be shot as a person being of unsound mind or a gajay.

  10. It all starts from the home. So many children raising children. Gone are the days when you had Community Parenting. People are now afraid to correct other people's children because we all know what happens. Change can only come when we embrace Christian Values and Beliefs.

  11. Whether officer shooting unarmed former inmate or off duty police shooting prospective perpetrators in public. It sends the wrong messages out there to our kids. They are only witness, now they are becoming good participants. This is why in many developed states police in the city do not carry guns in the public. They are only called when needed.

Since our officers are only trained to use force instead of using means of conflict resolution or intelligence gathering it is only natural that they require the use of sophisticated weapons among the public. How could you have a para-militay as your primary patrol unit among citizens including children? Many don't see it as a means to an end as violence begats violence. Take the situation of Isreal and the Palestinians.' What are they teaching the kids. Do you think that this conflict will ever end?

Blood shed only bring more bloodshed and serves as a vehicle to teaching bloodshed. Go on as demons always need blood so they always revel in bloodshed.

  12. Weather is parents who need to do a better job or praying is only a myopic view. I witnessed 2 police officer searching 1 school boy with 4 guns. Now tell me what will be required to search this boy in the next 5 years? All violence is now part of the society that we live in and we do a great job at teaching it to our kids. We resolve all issues by violence, a position influenced and supported by most in society of indifference. More is to come

  13. I hope people see what I was talking about in the case involving the shooting of an unarmed former inmate by a correctional officer. I made special mention of the audience at the time. Many thought that the shooting was warranted. Now here we are same location same audience, but the children are now the actors.

Now explain this? Out of ignorance of deal with situations comes more ignorance. Harsher punishment will only yield harsher criminals. Do you remember slavery and its effects? No difference it just further strengthened the resilience of the slaves towards their masters. Here we are now acting in bear ignorance, not realizing that we are actually teaching kid how to resolve their differences. We see it everyday as to how society acts in response to violence.

Not realising that everone regardless of status represents a microcosm of society. Nothing comes out of bloodshed but more blood. Now go ahead and feed the devil. DEMONIC PEOPLE

  14. I am not sure if its still happening..but recently I went to blue coral which was about school time and I saw a whole bunch of students (boys) in an arcard playing video games...these games require money in order to work..where are they getting that money..police need to patrol upstairs blue coral and charge these business that encourage students coming there during school hours.

  15. it is high time that persons who get themselves involved in criminal activities young or old should face the consequences. criminals are begining to realize that crimes die out after a week or less so they go around committing crimes..

St lucians are copy cats..they see one idiot do it..so they do it too.

  16. I am deeply sorry to hear if such a travesty.we as parents need to start playing our roles as parents and not friend's. Parent first, then become a friend later.we have to encourage a collaborative culture to influence our youth. Schools send home family Friday night programs where kids can build and engaged with thrir family and friends. Churches. Encourage your members to have outreach programs for kids. Kids are cery energetic individuals and after working through out the week they beed some form of relaxation. .
