A police officer has died following a vehicular accident on the Vieux Fort-Laborie Highway in the wee hours of Monday morning, August 25.
PC280 Allen Abbott, also known as Randy, from Grand Ravine, Dennery, who was attached to the Special Service Unit (SSU) Castries, was pronounced dead at St. Jude Hospital.
Reports are that Abbott’s motorcycle collided with a minibus near the shopping mall sometime between 12:50 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. It is further reported that the mini-bus hit a utility pole, breaking it.
It is not yet clear if Abbott was the only person on the motorcycle and reports are that his firearm was not recovered from the crash site.
Eyewitnesses told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that Abbott was coming from Green Synergy event in Vieux Fort when he crashed.
“No one can see the signs of death, no one can prevent it. You see someone in your eyes now and in a split second they are gone. I walked right pass him at Green Synergy and never knowing he wouldn’t make it home to his wife and daughter. Death is cruel and vicious. R.I.P Rand,” a friend wrote on Facebook.
Abbott was well known in sporting circles having represented several teams, including the police, in football competitions in Vieux Fort and Dennery.
He is survived by a wife. They had a daughter together.
