Suspected suicide victim, Gabriel Rene (centre).

A 62-year-old man was found hanging from a post in his house in La Croix, Marigot on Wednesday evening.

He has been identified as Gabriel Rene who was discovered by his son and daughter-in-law Rod and Alecia Rene with a piece of wire around his neck at about 11 p.m.

The couple had just returned from a church service when they discovered Gabriel dead.

Alecia told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that her father-in law left a note behind, explaining the reason for him taking his own life. The family did not disclose the details of the letter.

Alecia said Gabriel did not show any signs of depression or loneliness, but had a personal issue that he was dealing with.

His son, who is a Seventh-day Adventist pastor, expressed shock at his father’s death.

Gabriel leaves to mourn 10 children and six grandchildren.

A post mortem examination will be conducted soon.

  4. Only God knows why these people are taking this drastic way out instead of confining with someone regarding the problem they are facing.
We in St. Lucia as a whole nation need to look at the big picture here, it's not young men and women alone are commenting suicide, middle age people also are taking this lonely path out too.
There must have some for of help out there where they can go and open up to someone. Weather it's a consulor, a social worker, which I think the social workers on the island lack professional training.
The his is a very serious issue that must be address or else we will have more people taking their own lives. We need to face this monster head on.Do we have a good mental health doctor on the island? This is becoming a habit in St Lucia. People let's us all as a nation turn to God in prayer for our brothers as sisters so we can to gather raised above this evil that is plaguing ousted sweet St.Lucia To gather As One We Can Stand and defeat this evil. And please people don't bring politics in this, it's big problem and we must find a way to solve it. If we can prevent one person from taking his /her life then we are on the right track peace. Wait on the Lord.and he will direct your path. Wait my fellow St. Lucians.

  6. In response to uh oh....greed is everywhere! I find government is a trying to take advantage of the people many people are not understanding the political part they are only listening to what others say about what the politicians are doing and saying know for yourself is vital. Many people don't know they lack. Education so it result to tragedy, once they understand what has happened it's to late...Many of the tax dollars are being misused this country it shows no value to accommodate the amount of taxes being paid. I know what a penny can do we vote on penny tax all the time and that is 1% imagine what 15% can do. So who would not be depressed.

    • What are you talking about? You're comparing the US to St. Lucia; you can't. The US Gov't gets their cut of taxes from EVERYTHING which is bought. In St. Lucia, it's only from about 2 or 3 things. With the population of the US being what it is vs the population in St. Lucia, the US Gov't is still collecting millions upon millions more, yet they're still broke.

  7. I am a U.S. Native residing in Saint Lucia, I see lots of greed in government. Vat 15% that's more that what you paid for the items you purchased not to mention many people create poverty if you can't take care of one child do not continue to have them there are no freebies here if you don't work you don't eat. I find many people are trying to make the best of the situation it's hard everywhere right now once this storm has passed there will be favor...
