A former inmate was shot by a Bordelais Correctional (prison) officer by Constitution Park in Castries around 4 p.m. today.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the man was shot after he assaulted the prison officer.

One eyewitness told St. Lucia News Online: “I saw the guy push the officer three times…. He (prison officer) shot directly at the guy’s leg, close range. He held him to shoot him.”

Another eyewitness said the victim was behaving aggressively.

“He was only hitting the officer,” the source said.

A prison officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the victim is a former inmate who has a history with the shooter.

“That ex-inmate always harassed the officer whilst he was incarcerated at the (Bordelais) Facility,” the officer said in defense of his comrade.

The prisoner said the incident happened moments after they got off a Bordelais bus.

“After the incident, the ex-inmate was escorted to the hospital by the officer,” he said.

  1. Hey peeps those of us who look for excuses to condone criminal BS and bring up points of family and door step, please wake up and smell the coffee, hence the same reason parents attack teachers. Modern day society have little regard for discipline and order. We barley have an identity. As long as one decides to engage in criminal activity or go against the rules, certain rights of that individual will be NULL and VOID. So, for you who still live in fairy land WAKEUP. Be part of the correction. Let's take back what's ours. Integrity, and Selfawareness.

  2. That prison officer is my pick for minister of homeland security and crime prevention. Its too much pussyfooting with determined criminal elements which caused the upsurge in crime. That clown clearly set out to humiliate and intimidate an officer of the law, our first line of defence, who else would be safe if he had got away unchecked and emboldened. Well done officer! May God watch over you while you watch over us.

  3. nobody knows the inmates better than we do and what they are capable of! period. full stop. in any circumstance, the officer and he alone will know the level of threat that he is under! when them criminals come up to you, they dont come to ask how r u doing sir? nope! they have a plan and that is to attack you anywhere, be it in public or not.to some pple, criminals will respect the police, but not correctional officers? helll no! pple, correctionl officers plays an important in as much as the police. their lives are at risk day in day out. the threats, not only at wk but towards their immediate families also.insults, assaults and the list continues.are they supposed to stand idly by and allow any criminal or ex walk up to dem to do wat they want? they have to defend!whilst the populace is sleeping, those officers are making the sacrifice to keep st lucia safe. well done boss alfred. i bet u john slade cannot and will never attempt to do so again. a strong message have to be sent out to those criminal elements that correctional officers will adopt a posture of defending themselves in whatever way necessary.

  4. My only comment on that. You just gotta know what you getting yourself into. Same like you step in the ring with a boxer you gonna get knocked out, u jump in a lions den. What's gonna happen?... You tackle a officer of the law? I rest my case you should know the answer simple as that.

  5. its high time they start putting them down so... Being a prison officer is a risky job. your identity is not concealed and some prisoners know where you live your mother house. They mean the officers and attack them when they get out. This happened to a friend of mine....in my opinion he should've paralyzed his rare end.

  8. imagine WARM THERE would try to calm an ex-con who is pushing him to who knows where. When you are a spectator you see things differently. An ex-con is pushing and hitting WARM THERE and all he is saying, is stop it! dont hit me! behave yourself! and trying to run away. Well done good citizen!
