Police has just issued an update on the death of Kefran’Nancy’ St. Clair, confirming an earlier report by St. Lucia News Online that she died of ligature strangulation which means strangulation without suspension using some form of cord-like object.

However, the  lawmen are not investigating St. Clair’s death as a homicide, though the deceased’s relatives believe she was murdered.

The police press release stated: “On Monday, June 30, 2014, a post mortem examination was conducted on the body of 27-year-old Kefran Nancy St. Clair of Morne Du Don, Castries. According to the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, the results indicate ligature strangulation. Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are treating her death as a suicide. St. Clair was discovered with a rope around her neck hanging from her kitchen ceiling about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014.”

Nancy’s sister, Marie St. Clair told St Lucia News Online (SNO) today (July 3) that she is still trying to come to grips with the news of her sister’s death.

Marie has also expressed disbelief that her sister committed suicide.

She told SNO,” I am very heartbroken. I don’t have much to say right now, but I just don’t understand why should someone do that to her.”

Marie complained that she is having difficulty eating and sleeping.

“It’s also very difficult to go to work because everyone keeps staring at me and asking me questions,” she added.

Nancy’s three children, ages 10, three and two are now in their grandmother’s care.

Nancy was found hanging in her rented apartment in Morne Du Don, Castries on Saturday (June 28). She was a housekeeper at Bay Gardens Resort and was due to work Saturday evening.

She was reportedly discovered by her boyfriend at about 6:30 p.m. hanging by a rope from the roof of the kitchen.

  1. @SLNO, Im hoping Merrick see this, would it be possible to ask Dr. King to explain what he means by ligature strangulation? seeing that the information online about what ligature strangulation is seems to contradict her death being ruled suicide? I also heard that the police report has incorrect info concerning her cause of death( the police report states ligature strangualtion) but Dr. King said something else. That's what I heard. idk.

    • Dr. King's report regarding the outcome of the post mortem, coincides with the police report.

      • really? wow. ok. If that's the case then I still don't understand why it was called 'ligature strangulation'. Thanks for responding.

  2. I'am not sure as I am not directly privy to facts. From what I am gathering with regards to the scene, the police statements and now what the pathologists report says (and if all are accurate)I agree there seems to be incompatibility enough to be of concern.

Suicide is too unfortunate a cause of death to be erroneously labelled as someone's cause of death when it may not have been so. A thorough forensic/scientific investigation is then required

  5. I am also extremely glad that this is coming to the fore. Everybody now has a good grip on the issue of hanging. NOW COMPARE THIS TO CHAKADAN WHO DIED AS A RESULT OF WHAT????????

  6. Just to clarify. Hanging is suspension. for if something is not suspended then it is not hanging. Now probably the police used the wrong term in their report which they would now have to clarify.

  7. "hhhhmmmm" said:
"Ligature strangulation means strangling without the body being suspended in forensic terms. Therefore if it was suicide the body would not have been found hanging it would have been found on the floor, bed or where ever the person decided but not hanging." I love when my people show this type of analytical thinking. It shows that we are make educated judgements.

Its a pity that the police do not act on educated judgements. They are more concerned about using brute force and such ridiculous methods like carrying machine guns to a place where there is a report bomb threat or wearing camoflage in the city. What can they do shoot the bomb or disguise among the buildings with their camoflage?

But the real challenge is to the Justice Minister, himself a former criminal attorney. What does he do about such a report as the buck stops with him and by extension the PM. Is there this relaxed attitude that America is not watching? You had better think this again. Be Wise, DO Whats Right Minister.

  9. If the police have a lackadaisical attitude towards an investigation now their attitude will not get any better with the 5% cut.

  10. Watch "Police investigating suspected suicide June 30…" on YouTube
Police investigating suspected suicide June 30…: http://youtu.be/SoK3Wl91fY0
Watch this link so far it is the only video evidence available to the public to my knowledge. In this video although blurred you still can see her hanging as well as the blood on the floor by the fridge, I donot believe it was her blood. From the minute I heard of her death I knew she didnt take her own life. Now someone out there went to all that trouble to strangle her and then pick her up and hang her so the person is more than likely a male. He probably ssitting back watching all the media frenzy feeling proud he thinks he got away with it, but God great, he never sleeps and her cold blooded killer will be put to justice hopefully. I feel so sorry for her babies now they have to grow up without a mother who clearly was a hard working woman, dedicated to raising her children by any means.
