A man who was released from prison late last year for a series of armed robberies in the Dennery Valley area, was arrested Tuesday, July 22 for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Bordelais Correctional Facility, reliable sources have confirmed.
Sources say the man attempted to throw six small parcels of marijuana over the prison’s perimeter fence at about 12:15 p.m. but was spotted by prison officers.
The perpetrator attempted to escape, dropping the drugs and his cell phone.
However, he was caught and taken to the Dennery Police Station. He is expected to be charged Wednesday, July 23 for possession and possession with intent to supply cannabis.
Sources told St. Lucia News Online that the culprit was apparently making calls to an inmate in the prison in order to deliver the drugs.
Prison authorities were scheduled to search the facility today to find the inmate who has possession of a cell phone.
