The Traffic Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident which occurred on the Bexon Highway, near the Deglos Gap at about 7: 20 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2014.
The accident involved a wrecker trailer driven by Omega Ettiene of La Grace, Laborie and a pedal cyclist named Stephen Joseph and known as Regan of Bexon.
As a result of the impact, Joseph sustained serious injuries and were transported to Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A couple – Thomas and Angel Berry – said Regan will be missed.
“My husband and I travel home every year, I personally knew Regan since he lives in my mom’s area,” Angel told St. Lucia News Online.
She added: “He was a very popular guy to many. My husband Tom met him and felt sorry for him over the years because he didn’t have close, caring family who even treated him right. I’m a Lucian national married inter-racially and we really loved him. It’s hard to believe he is gone. He really helped my mom out weekly and she paid for his services. I’m heart broken by this.”
A post mortem examination is scheduled for a later date.
