The man accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into the Bordelais Correctional Facility was charged with the offense today (July 23).
Altius Tisson from Gardette, Dennery, but living at La Tourney, Vieux Fort, was charged for the possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply cannabis.
He is expected to make another court appearance tomorrow (July 24).
Tisson was arrested on Tuesday, July 22 for the offence.
Sources say the man attempted to throw six small parcels of marijuana over the prison’s perimeter fence at about 12:15 p.m. on the same day he was arrested. However, he was spotted by prison officers. The perpetrator attempted to escape, dropping the drugs and his cell phone.
However, he was caught and taken to the Dennery Police Station.
Sources told St. Lucia News Online that the culprit was apparently making calls to an inmate in the prison in order to deliver the drugs. Prison authorities were scheduled to search the facility, to find the inmate who has possession of a cell phone. It is unclear, whether the operation was successful.
Tisson was released from prison late last year for a series of armed robberies in the Dennery Valley area.
