STATEMENT –
The Appeals Committee has given its ruling on the Claudius ‘J Mouse Edmund’ matter.

The Appeals Committee having reviewed the matter is of the view that the breach allegedly committed by Edmund’s is not a breach which the Appeals Committee has jurisdiction over.

The Appeals Committee announced that the Saint Lucia Calypso Association (2009) has to abide with the ratification of Edmund’s membership. Edmund’s application was approved on June 4, 2014. During that process, no cognizance was taken of the applicant’s age resulting in him being approved as a member. The Association takes full responsibility for its actions. Therefore, in the interest of fairness, Claudius ‘J Mouse’ Edmund has been reinstated to the Power Soca Monarch Finals Competition.

The Association recognises that in the process of putting proper procedures in place several short comings have been highlighted. However, the Association assures its membership and the public that we will continue to deal with all such issues as fairly and transparently as we have thus far.

Chairman of the St Lucia Calypso Association, David Jordan admits that this has been an unfortunate situation and apologizes to Edmund, his management team and the public for the confusion and discomfort this has created.

For his part, attorney for Edmund, Dylan Norbert-Inglis says, “Mr. Edmund is very happy with the decision of the Calypso Association. We are cognizance of the difficulties faced by the Appeals Committee but I am satisfied with the decision on the part of the Association taking into account all of the circumstances giving rise to the situation. I feel that the result was the most fair course of action and look forward to the evening of July 20 when Mr. Edmund will vie for the title.”

  2. For Clinton Reynolds:

As a journalist and in your current capacity as President, you ought to be a little more responsible than that. The young Artiste never falsified his age! I know it is very unusual for local journalist to do research, but this time I think you are duty bound to do so; otherwise, his lawyer might pay closer attention to this post and you may just be one step away from the Hot Water.

  3. Gosh a simple thing like that even a lawyer was involved. These people have no common sense? Its simple if you approved his application you cannot debar him from the finals plain and simple.

  7. This decision is so ridiculous...an Association determined a matter, gave reasons for the decision and said the decision was final and on their own accord....they reviewed their own decision and now claiming lack of jurisdiction....basic parliamentary procedures Associations cannot get right....Saint Lucia is indeed in a sad and laughable state.

  8. This is so ridiculous, the Appeals Committee determined the matter, provided reasons for the disqualification, indicated that the decision was final. Yet, on their owr, they have decided to review the decision and claim to not have jurisdiction.....This association is a big joke.....Saint Lucia in a sad state indeed....basic parlimentary rules and procedures cannot be applied......
