STATEMENT – The Appeals Committee has given its ruling on the Claudius ‘J Mouse Edmund’ matter.
The Appeals Committee having reviewed the matter is of the view that the breach allegedly committed by Edmund’s is not a breach which the Appeals Committee has jurisdiction over.
The Appeals Committee announced that the Saint Lucia Calypso Association (2009) has to abide with the ratification of Edmund’s membership. Edmund’s application was approved on June 4, 2014. During that process, no cognizance was taken of the applicant’s age resulting in him being approved as a member. The Association takes full responsibility for its actions. Therefore, in the interest of fairness, Claudius ‘J Mouse’ Edmund has been reinstated to the Power Soca Monarch Finals Competition.
The Association recognises that in the process of putting proper procedures in place several short comings have been highlighted. However, the Association assures its membership and the public that we will continue to deal with all such issues as fairly and transparently as we have thus far.
Chairman of the St Lucia Calypso Association, David Jordan admits that this has been an unfortunate situation and apologizes to Edmund, his management team and the public for the confusion and discomfort this has created.
For his part, attorney for Edmund, Dylan Norbert-Inglis says, “Mr. Edmund is very happy with the decision of the Calypso Association. We are cognizance of the difficulties faced by the Appeals Committee but I am satisfied with the decision on the part of the Association taking into account all of the circumstances giving rise to the situation. I feel that the result was the most fair course of action and look forward to the evening of July 20 when Mr. Edmund will vie for the title.”
