UPDATE: Marchand house may have been set ablaze

An abandoned home was allegedly set ablaze around 10: 17 a.m in the Park View area in Marchand, Castries, today, July, 31.

Residents told St Lucia News Online (SNO) the home had been abandoned for some time. However, as of recent it was occupied by a group of young men.

One resident, who prefers to remain anonymous, told SNO that different people would frequent the home from time to time.

The resident said, “All different people would be in that home, we don’t really know any of them.”

Residents closest to the fire recalled hearing a cracking sound coming from the house before discovering that it was a fire.

Fire Fighter Owen Arthur told SNO that he responded to reports of a fire, but is unaware of circumstances surrounding the blaze.

An elderly woman from a nearby house was evacuated, since it was feared that the fire could have spread.

The fire was later contained. No one was injured.

  2. Imagine so many decent people looking for houses to rent and there are abandon houses being taken over by vandals. Some people are too selfish they rather it stay and rot instead of helping a sister or brother in need who would keep it in shape for them.SAD!!!
