Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime and Intelligence, Milton Desir, has said four persons are in custody assisting police in connection with the four homicides that have occurred over the past five days.
Desir said the persons were brought into custody between Thursday and Friday.
At this time, the persons are considered suspects until enough evidence is gathered against them for charges to be laid, Desir told St. Lucia News Online.
To protect the identity of witnesses as well as the persons in custody, the police will not divulge for which homicides the four persons are being held.
He also noted that it is not yet guaranteed whether the persons in custody will be charged or not.
Four persons – Oran Charles, Anthony Harris, Asher Emmanuel and James Nelson – were gunned down in separate incidents, in Castries, between Saturday and Thursday.
Desir said police believe the recent violence in the capital is gang-related.
