Readers of St. Lucia News Online (SNO) can now access, within seconds, this news website via any mobile phone – including Blackberry, Nokia and iPhone – using www.stlucianewsonline.com or www.luciaenews.com.

A mobile version of St. Lucia News Online appears within five to 30 seconds as soon as the website’s URLs are processed on any mobile device in or outside St. Lucia.

Readers will also be able to submit comments on stories and view images using the mobile version of the site, which is scaled down in appearance in a more mobile user-friendly format to allow faster access.

Merrick Andrews, managing director/editor of Andrews Media Services Corp., the operator of St. Lucia News Online, explained: “Based on research and readers’ feedbacks we have realised that a lot of people are trying to access our website from their phones.

“Not only is the mobile penetration of St. Lucia very high, but also the large amount of users taking advantage of data/internet services from their respecting Internet Service Providers (ISP).  A significant number of these people have access to the Internet ONLY on their mobile phones.

“Previously most people were able to scan our headlines though the Facebook news feeds on their mobile phones, especially Blackberry, but it proved cumbersome to open the story link. This is now a thing of the past.”

Andrews also explained that being able to access SNO news is more than a matter of convenience.

“There are people who do have Internet at home and/or at their office, but may be on the road when a news breaks on SNO. They will get the news feed on their phone from Facebook, Blackberry messenger, Whatsapp or email, but now, with this new mobile feature, there will be no worries or hassle to access the access and open the story. Once the ISP network is working well, without congestion or interruption, the link will open within a few seconds,” Andrews said.

He said more technological and editorial features will be launched soon.

Founded in December 2008, St. Lucia News Online, www.stlucianewsonline.com, an online-only daily/up-to-the-minute newspaper, was first published online in late March 2009, but was stalled within two to three months to strategise the advancement of two other projects.

St. Lucia News Online resumed publication officially on Oct. 1, 2012. Since then the site has registered over 21,000 unique visitors and growing (within six weeks) and over 100,000 page views.

The site’s Facebook page is also growing rapidly, moving closer to 1,500 likes in less than two months, and reaches up to 40,000 people per week.
The website can also be accessed using the following URLs:
– www. saintlucianewsonline.com

The aim of St. Lucia News Online is to bring breaking news, professional and reliable daily news, photos, videos, audio and commentary to natives and residents of St. Lucia, especially the St. Lucian Diaspora.

St. Lucia News Online is operated by Andrews Media Services Corporation, a subsidiary of the Tortola-based Andrews Media Corporation, which also publishes bvinews.com (British Virgin Islands). BVINews.com has been publishing continuously since 2006.

In 2007, the company founded dominicanewsonline.com and published it continuously for four years before it was acquired in December 2011 by Duravision Inc.
