Dominic Fedee has won the first round of a contest to represent the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) in the General Elections as a candidate for Anse La Raye/Canaries.
Fedee, regional public relations manager at Sandals Resorts, captured 50 of the 85 votes cast on Thursday evening at the Jacmel Community Centre.
Hermangild Francis got 34 votes and Amatus Edwards got none. One ballot was spoiled. Leslie Mondesir was a no-show.
Reports are that the men were expected to each make a presentation to the financial members of the UWP minute, followed by a secret ballot.
The UWP’s National Council is the next step to confirm the candidate for the Anse La Raye/Canaries seat.
Former Member of Parliament for Anse La Raye/Canaries, Dr. Keith Mondesir had indicated that he would not be interested in contesting the seat in the next elections.
Mondesir was defeated by Dr. Desmond Long of the ruling St. Lucia Labour Party in the 2011 General Elections.
