St. Lucia’s newly crowned Miss Caribbean Tourism Consuelo Dupal has said her success in the first annual pageant held in St. Kitts Saturday night is also a victory for St. Lucia.
“I do hope that St. Lucia embraces this win because it wasn’t just for me but for tourism in my country as I am a true ambassador of St. Lucia and now to the Caribbean – Miss Caribbean Tourism,” she told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) in an exclusive interview Sunday morning.
Dupal, who is employed at Morgan Bay Beach Resort as a concierge and tours agent, also won the Best Evening Wear segment with 563 points.
Jovonne John of St. Vincent won first runner-up and St. Kitts & Nevis’ Trevicia Adams took second runner-up for the hosts. (SEE FULL RESULTS BELOW)
The 21-year-old Dupal told St. Lucia News Online that she was not surprised at the results.
“I worked really hard and I really didn’t want to come home with anything less than the crown. At the end of the night I was satisfied with my performance and could only hope for the best,” she said.
The historic announcement was made at about 2:30 Sunday morning as Dupal outperformed 12 other contestants.
“It feels good to have made history – crowned the first ever Miss Caribbean Tourism Queen. This pageant allowed me to fuse the two things I love: pageantry and tourism,” said Dupal, who holds a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management and is a graduate of the Monroe College, St. Lucia Campus. She is a local model and heads the team at Sofyerie Promotions.
She is no stranger to regional pageants, having captured the Miss Caribbean Talented Teen title in 2009 and copped second runner-up in the Miss Caribbean World Pageant earlier this year.
“The competition was tough, all the ladies were experienced, and we were all competing for the same crown. I am happy to have come out on top. I have made myself proud,” said Dupal.
The event was held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 17 Degrees in Basseterre, St. Kitts, but the competition extended into the wee hours of Sunday.
