Canadian tourist succumbs to injuries from robbery attack

JUST IN: Police have confirmed that one of two tourists who was attacked and robbed last Thursday while on a beach succumbed to his injury.

Police said Collin Peter died at about 6 p.m. last evening.

According to a police press release distributed yesterday, Collin and his wife Gwenthe Peter were “robbed of their valuables” on a beach last week while vacationing at a hotel. The police did not release the name of the hotel, but described it as “well-known”.

Police further reported that Collin was hit with an object and lost consciousness. He was transported via ambulance to Victoria Hospital where he was admitted.

Police responded to the incident at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15.

This is now the fourth homicide in just over a week.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, in the wee hours of the morning, the mutilated body of 31-year-old Howard McGarvey Pascal of Bois d’ Orange, Gros Islet, was discovered on the Corinth play field adjacent the Corinth Secondary School.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, a double shooting in Maynard Hill left a 16-year-old dead and his best friend, also 16, nursing a gunshot wound. Both are students of George Charles Secondary School.

Two days later, on Monday, November 12, 48-year-old Francis Mathurin of Petit Bough in Anse-La-Raye was stabbed to death in the community. A man of unsound mind was held for questioning.

Almost 40 homicides have been committed in St. Lucia since the start of 2012.

  5. St lucians must realize tourism is responsible for 60+% of our GDP so if we continue harming the tourist visiting the island it will significantly affect the economy of the country and make things harder than it already is
