Blackheart tournament launched for 2014, fixtures released


PRESS RELEASE –
The 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament with the theme “Scoring for the benefit of all” was launched last evening upstairs the players pavilion of the Beausejour Cricket Ground.

On hand last evening were representatives of the 16 teams participating in the tournament, sponsors, the media, invited guests and other well wishers.

Speaking at the launch last evening was Brian Mc Donald Director of Blackheart Productions who gave a tournament overview and what can be expected for this year. Mc Donald indicated that there would be four new major initiatives for this year’s tournament. That the two worst losers from the first round this year would drop down to the play offs next year, The extra time period for matches drawn at regulation time will only be instituted from the semi final stage this year, in the preliminaries and second round quarter finals the matches will go straight to penalty kicks.

Two days of the popular eight day tournament will be held at the Soufriere Mini Stadium and that Prize monies for this year’s top four teams has been increased. The winning team will take home $20,000 thousand dollars five thousand dollars more than the 15,000 thousand dollar prize last year, second place gets $9000 dollars up from the $7500 awarded last year, third place gets $5000 up from the $3500 last year and fourth $2000 dollars up from $1500 last year.

The winning team will receive the lime trophy. There will also be lots of individual prizes for the outstanding performers at the tournament and some teams a well.

Money will be paid for goals again this year 50 dollars for goals scored in the first round and $100 dollars from the second round till the finals.
The registration fee for the tournament has also moved up from $500 dollars to $800 dollars .

Blackheart Productions advisor Cuthbert Didier in addressing the gathering urged the powers at be to take the tournament which he described as a fully home grown grass roots football Tournament as a national event on the scale of the ST.Lucia Jazz Festival , Carnival ,the ARC and the recently held Mercury Beach Festival .

Charlene Jn Baptiste of Platinum Sponsors Lime said that they have been with the Blackheart Football Tournament since 2009 and they are coming on board this year for the tournament full 4 G Speed ahead. Jn Baptiste indicated that they would be providing $30,000 thousand dollars in cash and products or this year’s tournament.

Youth and Sports Officer in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Ligorious Marquis representing the Ministry urged all the participants to come out and play this year’s tournament with a high level of discipline and his Ministry was always happy when private entities like Blackheart Productions can come in to stage tournaments like these to compliment that of the national associations.

Managing Director and CEO of Blackheart Productions David “shakes” Christopher took his opportunity at the mike to thank the sponsors who have come forward to sponsor this year’s tournament and also thanked all those involved in making the tournament a success over the years.

Christopher also urged football fans to make the trip to Soufriere for the two days of matches down there on September 27th and 28th as part of the matches in this year’s tournament and announced that there would be packages available for patrons wanting to overnight and make it a fun weekend.
