PRESS RELEASE –
With 41 of 42 games now decided in the SCBL regular season, Black Bay Basketball emerges the top seed with a resounding win over BBC Saturday night.

Scores were close for most of the first half of play, the 1st quarter ending 11-11 with Black Bay’s Fergusson Jean (7 points) and BBC’s Kurt Raphael (5 points) leading the scoring. The 2nd quarter was much like the 1st with Elizee Jn Baptiste and Curt Auguste providing a spark off the bench to help BBC close out the half 27-22.

The tides changed in the 3rd quarter when Black Bay Basketball altered the game tempo with their defense. Previously laid back in a 2-3 zone, Black Bay switched to a half-court pressure defense that quieted the BBC offense and started the Black Bay fast-break. Ali Quinlan, the usual beneficiary in transition for Black Bay, scored 13 3rd quarter points to help his club outscore BBC 25-14 in the quarter. Still the scores remained close, 48-41 Black Bay, with on period remaining.

And then It happened. Similar to the battle of Laborie, with the trailing team trying to regroup to make a final rush on the Black Bay lead, shock-and-awe came down on the unsuspecting club at the start of the quarter. Black Bay Basketball dropped 3 consecutive bombs from 3-point land, 2 by Ali Quinlan, to extend the Black Bay lead by 15, 59-44.

The attack came so suddenly BBC was stunned in indecision for several moments while game time was lost. When they finally came to their response was an ineffective zone defense, with Black Bay using up crucial time with ball movement on the perimeter. When game time expired Black Bay Basketball had clinched the top spot in the #SCBL, with the Lab Techs conceding to 2nd place forfeiting their final fixture of the regular season.

Team Win-loss Records

With this loss BBC completes the regular season with a 6-6 record, a 0.500 winning percentage, entering the playoffs at the #4 seed.

The Lab Techs forfeit of their final regular season game has left Black Bay Basketball uncontested for the league’s top spot. Black Bay’s record an impressive 9-2 with still one game remaining.
