BITTER: St. Lucia crashes out of Caribbean Cup; Guyana, St. Vincent advance

Playing in wet conditions at the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet Thursday night, St. Lucia suffered a crushing 0-3 defeat to Guyana – a result which saw the host team crashing out of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup on goal difference.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Piton Boyz who recorded two successive victories over Curacao (5-1) and St. Vincent & the Grenadines (2-1) and only needed a draw to top the group, or anything less than a 0-3 scorline, to advance to the next round.

However, advancing to the next round were the Golden Jaguars from Guyana, along with St. Vincent & the Grenadines, who defeated Curacao 4-0 in the earlier game Thursday night.

St. Lucian fans left the Beausejour obviously disappointed with some asking why the St. Lucian officials changed the team that recorded two successive victories on Sunday and Tuesday.

Others blamed the wet conditions for the home team’s below par performance.

  1. Some of the players were injured, from the goalkeeper down hence the reason for changing the team on Thursday.
