(PAGE SIX) – Bill Cosby‘s daughter Ensa has died. She was 44.
TMZ reported Monday that she died Friday night in Massachusetts, where she lived. The cause of death is unclear, but she had suffered from significant medical issues in the past and reportedly needed a kidney transplant.
Ensa was one of the few who stood up for her father during his sexual assault trial.
“My father has been publicly lynched in the media and my family, my young daughter, my young niece and nephew have had to stand helplessly by and watch the double standard or pretending to protect the rights of some but ignoring the rights of others,” she said in a statement at the time.
“I strongly believe my father is innocent of the crimes alleged against him and I believe that racism has played a big role in all aspects of this scandal.”
A request for comment from Cosby’s rep was not immediately returned.
