The 2011 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Local auto dealer Beachcomber Ltd will this Friday introduce Saint Lucia’s first Toyota Prius Hybrid, hailed as the gas electric car of the future.

The all-new 2012 Prius boasts an average 50 mpg but can reach as much as 95 mpg.  The Prius’s built in Lithium-ion battery allows for up to 11 miles of driving without the use of the gas engine, and proven speeds of up to 62MPH, without even “pressing the gas”.

The prime minister, during his budget presentation in May, announced a number of incentives to encourage local car dealers to begin importing hybrid vehicles as part of a wider programme to encourage energy efficiency on the island.

In addition to the Prius launch, Beachcomber is having an open day on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 10 am, and is inviting the public to view the vehicle.

The Service Department will also be involved by hosting a car clinic where vehicle owners will be given the opportunity to get free mechanical inspections and body repair estimates, as well as benefit from free informative service clinic.
