Basketball action review on Thursday at Vigie

One game was played at the Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex last evening in the National Men’s Basketball League.

Dennery Dolphins coming off a loss in the opening season game needed a win to avoid going 0 – 2 in the early stages of this year’s tournament when they came up against Morne Gladiators playing their first competitive game in the league.

It was early domination from Dennery going into the half time interval with a commanding 30 – 19 lead.

Dennery had a blend of youth and veteran performances in that of veteran Desmond Vidal and sophomore Kevin Mathurin who sealed the victory for Dennery despite a more physical attempt of play in the second half from the Morne.

Desmond Vidal for Dennery finished with figures of 19 points, 9 rebs and 8 steals. But The Delirius Bar and Deli Player of the game was Kevin Mathurin with his influential 21 pts and 3 rebs which steered them to victory.

For Morne Gladiators Gillan Octave contributed with 16 pts and 7 rebs but it was not enough to get them past a determined Dennery outfit who convincely won at the end 66 – 50.

Games continue this Saturday and Sunday March 16th and 17th. On Saturday, a double header at the Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex in Premier League:

  1. how can a player with 21 points and 3 rebs be 'player of the game' over an other with 19 points,9 rebs and 8 stls ?.....since when scoring 2 more points is influential ?
