Baron Foods has won the Small to Medium Business of the Year, Innovation and Manufacturing Excellence award, while the company’s Managing Director, Ronald Ramjattan, has captured the Caribbean Entrepreneur of the Year award.
“Baron Foods has for many years been both a leading and pioneering manufacturing firm, and their winning of these awards should be no surprise, as Baron has become synonymous with award-winning products the world over,” the Chamber said in a statement. “Baron is also a previous winner of awards from the Chamber itself and the Chamber is pleased to see those enduring qualities of excellence continue and manifest themselves.”
As Baron Foods celebrates its 21st birthday in November 2012, the Chamber said these awards prove that the “experience, culture of excellence as a world class manufacturer continues as the company matures and becomes an institution in the community”.
A chemist by profession, Ramjattan has grown the number of products from 12 to over 120 since the inception of the company and, according to the Chamber, “he has skillfully enhanced the company’s image, reputation and standards”.
He won the Chamber’s Business Person of the Year award in 1999 and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award that same year.
The Chamber noted that the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards and the International Organization of Standardization are using Barons as the subject of a study to determine the economic benefits of standardization and/or the use of standards.
Baron Foods’ products range from sauces, spices, condiments, flavours, and exotic fruit beverages.
The gourmet line is the most recent addition to the company’s products.
