Police said charges are expected to be laid against a Barbadian woman who was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 6 after cannabis was discovered in her suitcase at the George F.L. Charles Airport, Vigie, Castries.

The 24-year-old is now in custody facing charges of possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.

According to a police press release, officers attached to the Drug Unit were summoned to the George F.L. Charles Airport, Vigie Castries on Sunday by Customs personnel.

“On arrival, they were briefed and introduced to a young female. They were also shown a suitcase belonging to the young lady…. Information indicates that during a routine search of the young lady’s baggage, Customs personnel observed suspicious looking packages concealed in a false compartment. At the time, she was preparing to board a LIAT flight destined for Barbados. A closer examination of the packages was done and plant materials suspected to be cannabis was observed,” the press release added.

The woman’s name will be released only when she is officially charged.

  1. Barbadians appear to one of the culprits into the drug trade here.
Hope our immigration department begin profiling them and do more thorough searches on their person.

    • You can not classify a whole nation of people as the culprits; if so then it could be said that everyone in SLU is supplying it, which is not the case. There is good and bad, legal and illegal wherever you go, and you can not pass judgement on people based on their nationality.
      God Bless.

  2. Nah, they don't always (or even mostly) get caught. What's amusing is that people need to smuggle weed - and that weed is apparently cheaper/easier to get in SLU, to make it worth taking to B'dos.

  3. I think that woman was used more as a distraction while the real drugs made it through security! the drugs were conveniently found in a false pocket what a load of bull while they were concentrating on her, what else slipped through
