Police said charges are expected to be laid against a Barbadian woman who was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 6 after cannabis was discovered in her suitcase at the George F.L. Charles Airport, Vigie, Castries.
The 24-year-old is now in custody facing charges of possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.
According to a police press release, officers attached to the Drug Unit were summoned to the George F.L. Charles Airport, Vigie Castries on Sunday by Customs personnel.
“On arrival, they were briefed and introduced to a young female. They were also shown a suitcase belonging to the young lady…. Information indicates that during a routine search of the young lady’s baggage, Customs personnel observed suspicious looking packages concealed in a false compartment. At the time, she was preparing to board a LIAT flight destined for Barbados. A closer examination of the packages was done and plant materials suspected to be cannabis was observed,” the press release added.
The woman’s name will be released only when she is officially charged.
