A Barbadian man, who attempted to leave a St. Lucian airport with cannabis in his luggage, has pleaded guilty to the associated charges.

On Friday, August 9, 2013, Max Vanette Gilkes appeared before the First District Court in Castries to answer to the charges of possession of a controlled drug, possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug and attempting to export a controlled drug.

He pleaded guilty to all three charges and has been remanded at Bordelais Correctional Facility until August 16, 2013  when he is scheduled to be sentenced.

“Gilkes was arrested at the George F.L Charles on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 after attempting to board a LIAT flight to Barbados with luggage containing several suspicious packages. Upon closer examination of the packages, the officers discovered dry green plant materials suspected to be cannabis. The packages had a combined weight of 31.42 pounds,” a police press release stated.
