Jordan Augier had two swims this weekend, coming came agonisingly close to punching his ticket for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 19-year-old Saint Lucian completed his PAn Am Games schedule with two national records, but just missed the Olympic standard.
Having opted to skip the 100m backstroke to focus on the 50m freestyle, his preferred event, Jordan was aiming for the Olympic mark of 23.05 seconds. Coming in, his best time was 23.43, a national record.
In the preliminary rounds, Jordan finished fifth in heat 2, touching in 23.17 seconds. Standing 14th overall, he had made the B final.
In the B final, Jordan set another personal best mark, and another national record, but his 23.08 finish left him three hundredths of a second shy of the Olympics.
Jordan will have another opportunity to swim for Rio in a few weeks, when he competes at the World Championships.
