Augier man arrested for homemade shotgun

A resident of Augier, Vieux Fort was arrested for being in possession of a homemade shotgun when police responded to a robbery report over the weekend.

Andre Charlery, 29, of Augier, Vieux Fort is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Oct. 23 to answer to charges of possession of a firearm and robbery.

According to a police press release, on Sunday, Oct. 21 at about 2:30 am, officers attached to the Vieux Fort Police Station responded to a report of robbery. The lawmen subsequently proceeded on patrol in the vicinity of a particular establishment on the St. Jude’s Highway.

As a result of the description given of the suspect, officers accosted Charlery. A search was carried on his person and a black and grey homemade shotgun was recovered.

Police said he was then arrested and taken into custody and is expected to be charged before his court appearance tomorrow.
