The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour in collaboration with the Cultural Development Foundation, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, and the Carnival Stakeholders Committee will host the 2013 St. Lucia Schools’ Calypso Competition on Sunday, June 9 from 2:30 pm at the National Cultural Centre.
An audition for the 2013 St. Lucia Schools Calypso Competition was held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Conference Room of the Cultural Development Foundation.
Participants were students from primary and secondary schools vying for the final 12 places for the big show.
Last year, young Calypso sensation of Trinidad and Tobago, Aaron Duncan, the then 2012 Junior Calypso Monarch, thrilled the audience at the St. Lucia Schools’ Calypso at the National Cultural Centre. It is anticipated that the show will be of an even higher standard. A vocal and performance workshop was conducted for all the participating performers on Thursday, May 23 from 10 am at the Conference Room of the Cultural Development Foundation.
The 12 participating primary schools are: Dame Pearlette Louisy, Walcott Gordon Memorial , Millet, Tapion, Gros Islet, Anglican, Ave Maria Infant, St. Aloysius RC Boys, Ave Maria Primary and Ciceron Primary while the twelve Secondary Schools are Ciceron, Anse Ger, Vieux Fort Campus B, Entrepot, George Charles, Leon Hess, Corinth, Sir Ira Simmons, Marigot, Vide Bouteille, Babonneau and Gros Islet.
The musical accompaniment will be provided by Take Dat Band with guest performances by Mysterio, Ambi and Mongstar with the return of Aaron Duncan of Trinidad and Tobago.
