The Saint Lucia Athletics Association held a five-kilometre and ten-kilometre road race to commemorate Emancipation Day this week.
Three clubs took part with a total of 20 athletes facing the starter’s pistol. The race took place on the Beausejour circuit in Gros Islet.
Boys and women ran the shorter distance. Among the boys, it was a sweep for Cheetahs Athletics. Zachary Edmund was first across the line in 25 minutes, 40.17 seconds. He was closely followed by teammate Lantus Alexander, 25:50.00, with Kacy Harper coming in after the top woman at 32:53.38.
Tessa Mann of Road Busters was the women’s winner in 27:20.15, followed by Brendaline Descartes of Road Busters in 35:23.0 and Sheridan Stanislaus of Cheetahs in 36:05.0.
Michael ‘Mega’ Biscette won the men’s 10K in 39:27.0, leading a 1-3 split for Road Busters. Jason ‘Superman’ Sayers was third in 45:51.0, with Neville Dupre of Mercury second in 42:17.0.
