Armed robbers hit gaming shop in Castries

Police are investigating a daring armed robbery which occurred at a gaming shop in Castries this morning, May 5.

Reports are that two armed men – not wearing masks – robbed Island Treasure on St. Louis Street of cash at about 11:10 a.m.

An eyewitness gave St. Lucia News Online an account of how the incident unfolded.

“One guy came in the store and said he is looking for someone then left. A few minutes later he came back accompanied by another guy, both brandishing firearms. They said ‘nobody move’. One placed the gun at the lady’s head and demanded the cash for the day. About $900 was taken and the customers were robbed of their bags and phones. The men left walking as normal with the guns in their hands,” the eyewitness said.

A passerby also told SNO: “I was in town this morning and heard a lady shouting ‘they rob me, they rob me’. I went over, I called the police. She said it was two fellas…. She didn’t speak to me and the lady went up some stairs.”

Another source told our news team that the gunmen were “smart”.

“Apparently the thieves were smart. They walked in, calmly robbed the place, and walked out without anyone the wiser. No one realised that the placed had been robbed until the proprietor ran outside screaming,” the source said.

The gaming shop was closed immediately after the robbery.

  1. Every place where guns are outlawed have the most gun related crime. That is a fact. Every home owner should have a way to protect themselves. If every law abiding citizen could legally buy a gun for protection crime would drop.

  2. St. Lucia is an anti gun state. Only the outlaws are armed. They respect no law. An armed law abiding citizen could have stopped this incident. More guns less crime.

  3. I agree with you on the point that Mary Francis seeks to protect criminal suspects' rights; however her chastisement is aimed at the police.

It should be at the SYSTEM which exists now, that is seriously flawed and in dire need of amendment.

I know you and others will say talk about police brutality and the lot and I agree that this is a serious issue and too needs addressing albeit in another forum and be dealt on a case by case basis.

But the injustices lies in the Justice System. Magistrates/Judges are the ones who hold suspects on remand. NOT THE POLICE! And they (mag./judges) too have their hands tied by the current legislation.

What needs to be done is greater co-operation from the public and witnesses coming forward to ensure a SPEEDY trial and disposal of cases.

After all law enforcement (police/judiciary) are not psychics.

AND THIS IS WHAT MARY FRANCIS NEEDS TO BE FIGHTING FOR......

  5. The criminals are bold indeed. For such a small island where everyone knows everyone, that time of day with no mask as well; unbelievable. Are they planning to leave the island the same day?

Whoever can, please help. I hope this crime is solved and the perps face justice.

  7. I won't blame Mary Francis, buh it will take something shockin n awesome to deal with this scourge and if it is done people will bawl. Some basic human rights of ordinary citizens & criminals too will be trampled upon and then people like Mary Francis n the good ol United States of America will have something to say, but we will have to do something cause who feels it knows......

  8. looking atsome of these post i realise how truly ignorant we are, Mary francis? you think she is responsible or should address every dog that barks?, its simple, hard times plus lazy idle young men....what else to expect from them? i'm not accepting what they do but...it is what it is, no program or speech or workshop an stop these guys from committing daring robberies or crimes, only a stronger police presence would but at the same time police cannot be present everywhere all the time....

    • Are we a bit contradicting ourselves today?
You called those young men lazy, then turn around and state, there are no workshops, programs to "stop" those guys.

Now what exactly are you saying?
      Cause I'm really confused.

      • see you misunderstood i said no workshop or speech can help them cause after the workshops what next, still no jobs for them so its back to the streets

    • Well policeman,
First and foremost we are in the last days, so it doesnt matter what party is in power! they can't solve our crime problem or any of life issues.
What we need to do is turn back to God, and He will handle all our trials n troubles.
We need to open our Bibles and have a deep sincere relationship with God..
Remember Ecclesiastes 12:13... We are on Earth to fear(reverence) God and keep his commandments...
      Later be blessed!

  13. Ignorant people always have shit to say. Have you ever seen or heard someone committing a crime and they are stopped on the spot being challenged by Mary Francis. Every thing negative that happens is Mary Francis they want to blame, but as scare face saids "you need people like me so you can point your filthy fingers at and say that's the bad one".

  14. Leave Mary Francis alone eh look like you sniffing too much shit sniffin dog, she is doing her job. Crime happens but how is she involved

    (0)(0)

    • Obviously this sniffing dog character has no understanding of Mary's role in this society.

This is what lack of education, common sense and intelligence does to individuals like this.

May he get a bit of wisdom.

  15. Where's Mary Francis we need an in quest or apprehensive quest coz she all in arms when police trying 2 curb crime on citizens but have nothing 2say when d BOWOOS doing their SALOP TA on people some one please show me d logics in that

    • Sniffing dog...It is apparent that you do not understand the role of people like Mary Francis or any other human rights activist for that matter. Left up to themselves the police can be a law onto themselves, and people like Mary Francis are there to create a balance, to ensure that if YOU ever end up on the wrong side of the law, that your rights are not violated as well. That is what she works for, to uphold your rights as well as mine.So before mouthing off and sounding intellectually retarded, do some research and ask some questions, it would be worth your while.
