On board for this special event were representatives from key stakeholders including, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA), IGY Rodney Bay Marina, Ministry of Tourism, ECSL, Saint Lucia Yacht Club (SLYC), Marine Industries Association of Saint Lucia the ARC Planning Committee and the World Cruising Club (WCC).
“We are truly thankful for the unwavering support of our sponsors, who continue to show their commitment to this world-class event which has been anchoring in Saint Lucia for some 28 years now, “remarks ECSL Marketing and Sponsorship Officer, Leila Williams.
She continued, “We welcome back FLOW, SOL EC Ltd, Sixt Car Rental, CHI (Constantine Holdings Inc.) and Mercury. We are thrilled to welcome new sponsors Massy Stores (St. Lucia) Ltd. and the Harbor Club. We recognize our media sponsors, The Wave, DBS and the most recent inclusion Rhythm FM. We would also like to thank the media for their support of ECSL and all of the events that fall under our portfolio including this event, ARC.”
Every year between November and December, Saint Lucia prepares to receive and host some 1500 ARC participants from over 40 countries across the globe. Once in Saint Lucia, ARC participants, some of who are returning participants, immerse themselves in all things, Saint Lucian. From island tours, shopping expeditions to signature Saint Lucia events like the Anse La Raye and Gros Islet street parties, ARC participants are fully engaged, affording the island and its people the opportunity to display its exciting culture while benefitting from the increased commercial activity during that period.
Peta Cozier, Event Manager for the World Cruising Club noted, “This leg of ARC contributes significantly to the success of the WCC events calendar. The partnerships that exist with Saint Lucia and other stakeholders like the IGY Mariner are long-standing and invaluable to the overall success of ARC. We especially thank the Events Company of St. Lucia who provides critical logistical and operational support and even more so, support in the area of Marketing and Promotion of ARC on the ground.”
Sean Compton, Chairman of the ARC Planning Committee commended his team for their tremendous work and thanked the sponsors and partners for working closely with his committee to ensure the successful staging of ARC.
A most exciting feature of ARC is the historic ARC Flotilla staged locally to coincide, in real time, with the “sail off” of the ARC fleet from Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. The ARC Flotilla is scheduled for Sunday November 25th, 2018 and is set to sail at 10 am from the IGY Rodney Bay Marina to the Castries Harbor, departing the Castries Harbor at noon and returning to the IGY Mariana where a fun-packed schedule of activities and local entertainment is planned for ARC Flotilla participants and the public from 1 pm. In 2017, the ARC Flotilla was quite the spectacle, attracting over 40 vessels and hundreds of participants. Local boat owners and sailing enthusiast are invited to register to participate in ARC Flotilla 2018.
For the main ARC event, it is expected that the first few boats will arrive in Saint Lucia within 10 days of their departure from Las Palmas, which is Sunday, November 25th, 2018. All participants are expected to arrive in Saint Lucia between the 13th and 18th of December and stay into January 2019. At the time of this press release, the WCC recorded some 300 boats registered to participate in the 2018 ARC race across the Atlantic to Saint Lucia.
