(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – The 2018 Henley & Partners Hero Scholarship, managed by the Halo Foundation, is now open for applications.
The scholarship is awarded to Antigua and Barbuda students who are academically able and who deserve special recognition for their humanitarian acts of bravery and kindness. The award aims to ease the financial barrier to tertiary-level education for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The successful student will receive a full four-year scholarship in their chosen discipline — inclusive of tuition, accommodation and meals, university-related fees, medical insurance, and text books — at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
The awardee will also be presented with the Halo Hero Humanitarian Gold Medal, bestowed upon deserving youth for their commitment to community and their dedication to humanitarian causes. The ceremony is held each year in June and is presided over by Their Excellencies Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams.
Gaye Hechme, Managing Partner at Henley & Partners Antigua, said: “We are currently financing the studies of four young Antiguans, for four years each at St. Mary’s University in Canada. Their areas of study include pre-medicine, politics and business. The students have expressed interest in contributing to our nation’s development through specialization in those fields of study, and we are proud to be tangibly assisting them in the achievement of their goals.”
President and Founder of the Halo Foundation Her Excellency Lady Williams expressed her appreciation to Henley & Partners for its substantial and continuous support of the nation’s youth. “It is exceptional that this company has chosen to give back in such a meaningful way. Henley & Partners has generously supported our nation following the hurricanes, and the firm is consistently contributing to the future development of our country through our own talented youth. Each individual who is educated as a part of this scholarship program is expected to participate in the economic advancement of Antigua and Barbuda as well as propel our social advancement through their participation in various humanitarian efforts.”
