According to a report on wset.com, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund awarded a $95,000 grant to Lynchburg College “to establish the off-site school that will accommodate up to 100 students per semester”.
The report said the grant will be used for computer equipment, classroom and office furnishings, marketing and recruitment, and worker salaries. It further stated that the programme will not produce revenue for the college, but according to Dean of Graduate Studies Edward Polloway “it will give students a unique opportunity”.
“Since 2003, Lynchburg College has offered online courses in special education, counseling and education in St. Lucia and the eastern Caribbean. Some students already have visited St. Lucia as part of the college’s international service-learning program established in 2008,” the wset.com report added.
