For the second straight year, St. Lucian Alva Henry has broken his national 400-metres hurdles record at the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) outdoor track and field championships, held over the weekend.

Henry, competing for Lincoln University in Missouri, placed fifth in the final in a new national record of 53.33 seconds, improving his 2016 performance by one place.

He qualified for the final after placing third in a then national record of 53.80.

Last year, Henry placed fifth in the final in 54.87 after a 54.48 in the preliminaries – bettering his then record of 55.30, set in April 2015 at the Southwest Baptist Invitational in Boston.
