(PRESS RELEASE) – Kilti Kalbas, a community based organsiation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness will on Sunday 16th February 2020, take the forefront in leading residents of Desruisseaux and environs on a fitness fun walk and health fair at the Desruisseaux Multi-Purpose Center grounds.
The walk from Desruisseaux playing field, through Belle Vue, Zabo, Cacoa, Vigier and back commences at 6 am. A number of exciting activities such as last man standing aerobics, warm up and cool down sessions will be hosted, as well as a prize giving ceremony for participants.
The event caters to participants’ total health and fitness and aims to foster community togetherness and wellness. Consequently, a free health fair has been scheduled to begin from 9am to 2 pm on that day. The health fair will include services such as dental checks for kids, vision screening, pap smear testing and prostate exams, blood pressure and blood sugar tests, stress testing and nutrition and health education. In addition, body and foot massage services will be available on site from as little as five dollars, as well as face painting for children.
The organisers believe that this activity will be a great commemoration of St Lucia’s 41st Independence anniversary as it will bring together residents of the community and inspire greater health and fitness consciousness – thus coinciding with the theme for independence ‘Now is the Time, Let’s Do This Together’.
Registration for the fun walk is currently ongoing at the Desruisseaux Library, the Desruisseaux Combined School and Soma Variety Store upstairs the Vieux Fort Plaza. Registration is only 20 dollars for adults and 10 dollars for children 12 and under and includes a t-shirt, drawstring bag, a bottle of water and fruits. Breakfast will also be on sale on the day. Let’s do this together!
Kilti Kalbas is a recently formed community based organization aimed at revitalizing community spirit in the community of Desruisseaux. Kilti Kalbas last hosted a festival of lights celebration in Desruisseaux in December 2019.
