A tropical storm warning has been issued for Saint Lucia as Tropical Storm Matthew forms in the Atlantic Ocean.
Matthew’s threat is imminent, according to the National Met Office which has sounded the alert.
Matthew is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches across the Windward Islands and southern portions of the Leeward Islands through Thursday.
These rains may produce life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.
Heavy rains, gusty winds, and scattered thunderstorms are expected in Saint Lucia in the next 24 to 36 hours as the island is being affected by a weather system.
Residents in Saint Lucia are advised to take all precautionary measures to protect life and property.
Small craft operators are advised to remain in port, while other marine interest are asked to exercise caution. Sea bathers are strongly advised to keep away from beaches.
The warning was also issued for Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
